Gwendolyn Eunice Paben, 95, a long-time resident of Brookshire, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 29, 2020.
Gwen was born November 25, 1924, in Hampton, Nebraska, the daughter of Peter and Esther (Larson) Koehn. She grew up in the Hampton area, graduating from Hampton High School and later nursing school. On May 8, 1944, Gwen was united in marriage to Floyd Henry Paben in Hampton. In 1949, Gwen and Floyd moved from Nebraska to Texas, planting roots in Brookshire. Gwen had a heart for helping others. She served as a nurse for Hermann Hospital in Houston for 37 years. Gwen enjoyed spending time at the Baptist Senior Luncheons. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Pattison and the VFW Auxiliary. Gwen enjoyed needlework, flowers and gardening, and word search puzzles.
She is survived by her daughters: Marjorie Carol Paben of Seabrook and Janet Lynn Prokisch of Washington; son: James Warren Paben of Pattison; grandchildren: Eugenia Lynn Kettler and husband, Deryl, of Cypress, James Edward Gregory and wife, Shellee, of Stockdale, and Wayne Allen Paben of Pattison; nine great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Esther Koehn, and husband, Floyd Paben.
