Harlon Durfey Giles

Harlon Durfey Giles, 86, of Pattison, passed away at his home surrounded by his family and friends on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

Harlon was born on November 11, 1937, to R.H. and Mamie (Hinson) Giles in Brandon, Mississippi. He grew up in Brandon, Mississippi. Harlon worked for many years as a project engineer in the oil and gas industry. On December 27, 1985, Harlon was united in marriage to Joan Attaway in Houston, Texas. Harlon and Joan enjoyed many years in Houston before making their home in Pattison, Texas in 1994. They are members of the Pattison United Methodist Church. Harlon loved his family, being home and eating Joan’s home cooking, especially her fried pork chops. One of his favorite things was spending time with his granddaughters, Olivia and Georgia. He enjoyed dancing, anything relating to his antique Studebaker, and watching football, even if it was a rerun. He was a voracious reader. Piddling in the barn and surveying his kingdom brought him much happiness.

He is survived by his wife: Joan Giles of Pattison; daughter: Tina Reeves of Surfside Beach; stepdaughter: Tami Grove of Houston; stepson: Michael Attaway and wife, Cindy, of Jackson, Tennessee; 5 grandchildren; sister: Elise G. Stewart and husband, Larry, of Clinton, Mississippi; brother: Wayne Giles of Madison, Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.

Harlon was preceded in death by his parents: R.H. and Mamie Giles; sister: Linda Bennett; and brothers: James Phillip Giles and Marlin Giles.
