Isador Fritz Alvin Zander

March 9, 1920 — November 5, 2010

Isador Fritz Alvin Zander, 90, went to his eternal rest Friday evening, November 5, 2010. Born in Bellville to Herman Rudolf and Annie Schavrda Zander, Isador was the fourth of ten children. He was raised in the Lutheran faith, baptized June 20, 1920 and confirmed April 14, 1935. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Isador was married to Miss Ileene Schroeder on May 25, 1955, in St. John's Lutheran Church. He served on the church council, as Sunday School Superintendent and a teacher and was a member of the senior choir for many years. Isador attended the Bradberry School through the eighth grade and worked on the family farm until enlisting in the United States Army with the start of World War II. He served our country as a glider mechanic at various places in the South Pacific Theater. After his discharge with the rank of sergeant, he went to work for the Humble Oil and Refining (Exxon) in the Raccoon Bend Oil Field for 35 years. In 1970, he returned to school and obtained his GED. In retirement, he became an emergency care attendant and spent many years of service with the Austin County EMS. For his service, ambulance Adam 6 was named "Mr. Z" in his honor. There were also many years of service with Meals on Wheels. He was probably watching or listening on the radio, if his beloved Houston Astros were playing. Gardening, fishing and raising a few head of cattle were a constant part of his life. Isador is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ileene; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Wayne and Jackie of Rowlett, Texas, Philip and Jeanne of Brenham, Texas; and three granddaughters, Casey, Jordan and Julie. Also, a brother, Harry and wife Lenora; and two sisters, Doris King and husband Clarence, and Ora Nell Hoppe; sister-in-laws Edith Zander and LaVell Zander; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Annie Zander; mother and father-in-law Raymond and Leona Schroeder; brothers Herman, Roy and Sterling; sisters Alwina Wienecke, Lillie Dell Deutrich and Evelyn Zander. Also brother-in-laws First Lieutenant Aaron Ray Schroeder, Monroe Wienecke, Clifton Hoppe and Raymond Deutrich, Sr.; and, sister-in-law Erna Zander.
