Jeanette L. Waak Ueckert

JEANETTE WAAK “Nana” UECKERT, 97, of Bellville, Texas, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023, in Bellville.

She was born September 14, 1926, in Bellville, the daughter of Herman, Jr. and Clara Grawunder Waak.  Jeanette grew up and attended schools in the Bellville area, graduating from Bellville High School in 1943.  She was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Houston for many years, before becoming a nurse’s aide at Bellville General Hospital, retiring in 1996.  Jeanette was united in marriage to Robert Ueckert in Houston, Texas, on July 3, 1943.  They made their home in Bellville, were members of St. John Lutheran Church, and were life-long members of the Coshatte Agricultural Society.  In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her yard, canning, gardening, fishing in Matagorda, cooking (especially meat and potatoes), and sewing. She once sewed Linda and Jeanette Luedke dresses for a dance. She truly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  One of the special things she was most proud of was being “Nana” to her precious grandchildren and all those in her “special family” who thought of her as their “Nana.” If you were around Nana at any time, you would hear her say, “Don’t put off tomorrow, what you could have done today.”

Jeanette is survived by her children: Linda Acebo and her husband, Roy, of Bellville, and Kenneth Ueckert and his wife, Peggy, of Bellville; grandchildren: Bobby Fick and his wife, Kim, of Bellville, Susie Curlee and her husband, Bob, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Allen Ueckert of Houston, and Melissa Durham of Bellville; great-grandchildren: Katie and Chandler Curlee, and Kayla, and Cordell Durham; step-grandchildren: DJ Janosky and his wife, Caitlin, and Devon Janosky; step-great-grandchildren: Kailyn Janosky, Kinlee, and Denton Janosky; sister-in-law: Bonnie Thurmond of Katy; extended family: Nate, Christine, Gunner, Layla, and Easton Sanchez, Matt, Kimberly, and Cade Schroeder, Ryan, Kayleen, Trace, and Jake Mosley, and Aidan Roberts; special friends: Gene and Evelyn Krenek, and Pat and Debbie Jez; numerous cousins, other family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband: Robert “Pawdie” Ueckert; nephew: David Waak; brother: James Waak; parents: Herman, Jr. and Clara Grawunder; brother-in-law: Albert Thurmond, and sister-in-law: Verliene Waak.

Pallbearers are Matt Waak, Ricky Waak, Bobby Fick, Allen Ueckert, Mark Thurmond, Cordell Durham, and Al Thurmond.
