Joy Faye Powell

December 24, 1932 — March 27, 2011

JOY FAYE HOLLOWAY POWELL was born December 24, 1932, in Haslet, Texas, the "Christmas baby" of Charles Edward and Eva Thompson Holloway. A graduate of North Side High School in Fort Worth, Texas, she married E.J. Jenkins on May 8, 1951. Joy and E.J. moved their family to Anaheim, California in 1955 before returning to Southside Fort Worth in 1966. Five years later they relocated to Pasadena, Texas. Joy and E.J. had enjoyed just over 30 years of marriage when he preceded her in death on September 23, 1981. Later that year, Joy moved back to Fort Worth. On March 17, 1984, she married Grady Powell. They moved the Houston area settling in Atascocita where they made their home until Grady's death on May 24, 1989. Joy moved to DeRidder, Louisiana where she was employed at DeRidder High School until her retirement fourteen years later. She then moved to Seguin, Texas to be close to her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of the Faith Lutheran Church and enjoyed being involved in many of the Bible Study groups. After Joy's brother, Jim Holloway died, she moved to Bellville to be with her sister-in-law and friend, Bill Holloway. An avid reader, Joy also enjoyed gambling trips to Vegas and Louisiana and playing Bingo. In her younger years, she enjoyed golfing and and waterskiing. She was always active in community affairs, volunteering at the pregnancy center and was in charge of activities at the American Legion Hall and at her retirement center. The backbone of her family, Joy treasured the time she was able to spend with them. She was united with her Heavenly Father Sunday, March 27, 2011. She passed away at her home at the age of 78. Joy leaves behind her SONS: Jerry Jenkins and his wife, Cynthia, of The Woodlands, and Jim Jenkins and his wife, Laura, of Canyon Lake; GRANDCHILDREN: Amanda Popp and her husband, Tim, Chelsea Jenkins, Joshua Jenkins and his wife, Connie, Jordan Jenkins, J.J. Best, Jeremy Best and Rachel Best; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Ashton Popp, Hunter Popp, Brayden Popp, Tiffany Wheeler and "soon-to-be" Austin Jenkins; SISTERS: Phyllis Blanton, and Nancy Duncan and her husband, Clindl; BROTHER: Gene Holloway and his wife, Pat; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and three brothers, Kenneth, Virgil and Jim Holloway.
