It is with deep sadness that the King family announces the passing of Kay King, a distinguished fashion designer and dedicated educator who passed away peacefully in her sleep. Kay lived a full life of love, fashion and travel.

Leaving an indelible mark during her 40 years in the fashion industry, Kay created many unique pieces including the 1970’s Houston Oilers Derrick Dolls uniforms as well as the staff uniforms for Astroworld. Her designs were a testament to her artistic vision and commitment to pushing the boundaries of creativity.

Kay played a pivotal role in developing the Fashion, Interior Design and Photography departments at Houston Community College, shaping the minds and careers of aspiring designers. She instilled a love for creativity, innovation, and craftsmanship in her students. Her dedication to excellence went beyond the classroom, often leading student tours to different parts of the world, expanding horizons and fostering global perspective via mentoring, unwavering support and encouragement.

A visitor to more than 58 countries during her life, and an avid mask and costume collector, Kay was a long-standing member of the Costume Society of America, the Federation of Houston Professional Women, a 50-year member of Fashion Group International as well as a member of Zeta Tau Alpha.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband George. Kay was cherished by her son Collin, daughter-in-law Stephanie, granddaughter Violet, and her extended family. A dear friend to many, and an inspiring mentor to countless students, Kay will be dearly missed by all that knew her.

Celebration of Life plans are being made. Details will be posted.
