LINDA MARIE LEVASSAR STRECKFUSS passed away in her home, surrounded by her family on July 20, 2018. After being diagnosed with Lung cancer on December 15, 2016, she fought a hard battle against the metastatic disease. She was a fighter and showed her family how to rely on the Lord through even the toughest situations.
Linda was born on February 28, 1957, to Judy Ann Daigle and James Larry Levassar in Jennings, LA. She has one older brother, Jay Levassar. She graduated high school with the class of 1975 from Royal High School in Brookshire, Texas. She enjoyed her time playing basketball, participating in theatre, riding horses, and getting into trouble with her friends. She went to Tyler Junior College and was a member of the Apache Bells. She attended nursing school through Wharton County Junior College where she graduated fourth in her class. Afterwards, she worked as a nurse in several hospitals including the emergency rooms of Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Bellville General Hospital, and Trinity Medical Center. She was also a paramedic with Austin County EMS for several years where she served her community and became the assistant director before retiring in 1998. She then became a real estate agent and later an insurance representative with Woodmen of the World. In her late years of life, she enjoyed collecting antiques as well as setting up and maintaining her antique sales booth.
Linda married John Robert Streckfuss on February 23, 1980. After high school, Linda asked John to go to a dance one evening and they fell in love soon after. Linda would come to spend time with John on the farm and they spent many days going on “tractor dates” laughing, talking and having picnics while John was working. They became partners in many aspects of life from owning a business, being fishing partners, to tackling parenthood. They enjoyed their marriage together for 38 years and loved each other tremendously until the end.
John and Linda had their first child together on October 22, 1986. Linda gave birth to a healthy and beautiful baby girl, Audrey Leighann Streckfuss. Audrey was the light of their life and brought so much joy to their marriage. Linda struggled with fertility, and hoped to have more children despite complications. Twelve years after being blessed with Audrey, who prayed for a little sister, Linda and John found out they were pregnant again. Linda was 41 years old, and told that her pregnancy would be risky. On November 5, 1998, she gave birth to a second healthy baby girl, Madison Elizabeth Streckfuss. Madison was the greatest blessing to her family and took care of Linda in her final days. She is Linda’s “mini-me” and will carry her light forever.
Linda and John were fortunate enough to gain a son in law on January 17, 2015, at the marriage of their eldest daughter Audrey to Derrick John Jones. Three years later, Audrey and Derrick blessed them with a grandchild on September 12, 2017. Lydia Kate Jones was Linda’s only grandchild. Linda had many cousins, nieces, and nephews that she loved dearly, many as if they were her own children.
Linda was preceded in death by her father Larry Levassar and mother Judy Levassar.
She was survived by her husband, John Streckfuss, mother in law, Evelyn Streckfuss, daughters, Audrey Jones and Madison Streckfuss, son in law, Derrick Jones, granddaughter, Lydia Jones, brother, Jay Levassar, brother in law, Fred Streckfuss, sisters in law, Betty McCormick and Anita Bruck, nephews, James Levassar, Jayce Levassar, and Adam Bruck, nieces, Candice McCormick, Emma McCormick, Annie Bruck, Ella Bruck, and Hannah Bruck.
Linda was a beloved friend, a free spirit, and a whimsical soul. She told us to remember her in the things she loved, especially the birds, the wind, and the “complicated” sea shells. She loved fiercely and will be never be forgotten.
