Lonnie Charles Drozd

July 2, 1949 — June 7, 2022

LONNIE CHARLES DROZD, 72, of Houston, Texas, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

Lonnie was born July 2, 1949, in Columbus, Texas, the son of Oscar and Gladys (Kubenka) Drozd.  He grew up in Victoria, Texas, graduating Cum Laude from Victoria High School. Lonnie continued his education at Texas A&I University, earning a bachelor’s degree in education.

Lonnie started a career in teaching in Refugio, Texas then moved to Houston, Texas where he taught for Houston ISD at Cullen Middle School, Deady Middle School, and was the librarian at Lanier Middle School where he finally retired with 36 years in education. Lonnie also led various reading programs. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, landscaping, and socializing with friends. Lonnie also loved animals, especially cats.

Lonnie is survived by his sister-in-law: Kathy (Drozd) Redmond of Seguin; niece: Kristi Olenius and husband, Lance, of Katy; nephews: Karry Drozd and wife, Jennifer, of Weesatche, Keith Drozd and wife, Amy, of Nolanville, and Kyle Drozd and wife, Kim, of Corpus Christi; long-time friends: Alton Freeman, of Houston, Kristine Brooks of Conroe, Kathy Marez of Victoria; Diane Honc of El Campo, Paula Hanson of Victoria, Sandra Hatcher and daughter, Ashley, of Lockhart; Luis Esquivel of Houston, and numerous other important friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Oscar and Gladys Drozd; brother: Oscar Wayne Drozd; and grandparents: Charles and Justina Kubenka and Joe John and Elizabeth Drozd.

He asks that everyone remember him with smiles and laughter, as that is how he will remember you all.
