Marceline Waak Jones

Marceline Waak Jones, 94, passed away August 19, 2022, at Magnolia Assisted Living.

Marceline was born August 10, 1928, to William, Jr. and Emma Grawunder Waak. She grew up in Bellville and graduated from Bellville High School and Scott & White School of Nursing in Temple. She worked as a hospital nurse, office nurse, Director of Nurses at Azalea Manor and Sweetbriar Nursing Home, and school nurse for Hempstead ISD.

Marceline was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, served as an usher, and worked with Lutheran World Relief. She was a member and past president of Town and Country Garden Club, a member of the Austin County Retired Teachers, and served as secretary of the Austin County Cancer Society.

Marceline loved gardening, crossword puzzles, playing cards and dominos with friends, traveling with the Garden Club, and quilting with the cancer angels. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family who especially loved her homemade rolls and meringue pies. She loved spending time with her family and always made sure they were well fed.

Marceline is survived by her daughter Deborah Sherrill, grandsons Steven Sherrill, Garrett (Raquel) Sherrill, granddaughter Julie Sherrill, great-grandson Dylan Carroll, and great-granddaughter Laura Telford.

She is preceded in death by parents William and Emma Waak, son-in-law Dalton Sherrill, brother Conway Waak, and sister Ruby Koehn.
