Matthew Glen Simonson

Matthew Glen Simonson, 27, of Bellville, Texas, was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, in Bouquet Canyon, California.

Matthew was born on January 16, 1996, in Katy, Texas to his parents Russell and Katherine Simonson, and spent his childhood between Katy, Buchanan, Michigan and New Ulm, Texas. As a child, he loved reading, riding four-wheelers and dirt bikes, having fun with his brothers jumping on the trampoline, swimming, having football parties and being with friends in his family's party barn. He gained a huge interest in gaming by ten years old.

While most of Matthew's education was through homeschooling, he graduated from Bellville High School in 2014. He earned various academic awards including graduating Summa Cum Laude, participated in band and sports, and led his school’s Latin Club. He held various jobs around Austin County, but working at Valmont sparked his interest in welding.

After surviving a tragic car accident in 2017, Matt began to find hope and healing in his relationship with God, and has helped others via his YouTube gaming channel, o-TwistedDreams, ever since. While streaming, he met the love of his life, Tani Mitsch, whom he got engaged to on February 20, 2021. He moved to California to be near her and pursue a degree in welding at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California. He quickly excelled in his welding skills and was honored to be brought on staff at the college to teach others in his field.

Matt felt his mission was to simply help people, in any way he could. He would go out of his way to ask a lonely person how they were doing, figure out a way to teach students discouraged by their welds, lend an ear to those who needed to be heard, write encouraging notes to be found by those he loved or even make a fool of himself just to bring a smile to someone else's face. Matt, aka “Twisted”, will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and remembered by all as the guy who loved tacos, mac and cheese, and all things spicy (and maybe the occasional beerita). (:

Matthew is survived by his fiancé Tani Mitsch; parents Katherine Dusek Simonson, Russell and Vanessa Simonson; younger brothers Luke Simonson (fiancé Cassidy Batchelor) and Ethan Simonson (fiancé Madison Alpha); nephew Russell Grey Simonson; maternal grandparents Emil and Dana Dusek, paternal grandparents Susan Simonson Brokmeyer, Russell and Lonni Simonson; aunts and uncles Stacy and Lloyd Saunders III, Karen and Frank Berlanga Jr., Kristopher and Misti Dusek; cousins Tucker and Eli Saunders, Ruthie and Dominic Berlanga, Carolina, Weston and Juliette Dusek, his beloved dog, Luna, numerous family and friends, along with his streaming community. Preceded in death by his grandfather Bruce Brokmeyer, cousin Wyatt Walker Saunders, great-aunts, great-uncles, great-grandparents, two angel babies, and his best friend, Tyler Huffman.
