Milton James Demaret

July 4, 1940 — January 14, 2022

MILTON JAMES DEMARET, 81, peacefully passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family in Bellville, Texas.

Milton was born July 4, 1940, in Houston, Texas, the son of Lyman and Isabel (Bewley) Demaret.  He was raised in the Heights in Houston. Milton was fortunate enough to be surrounded by his loving wife, daughter, and additional family and friends, all of whom were a tremendous source of comfort and support throughout the last days of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Patricia; daughter: Deena K. (Ted) Zabel; grandchildren: Justin M. (Sarah) Whiteley and their children, Caitlin and Noah, Brandon J. Whiteley, and Ryan I. Whiteley; brother: David Demaret; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Milton was preceded in death by his infant son, Baby Ray Demaret, parents, Lyman and Isabel Demaret, brother, Kent Demaret, and sister, Carol Hall.

Milton joined the Harris County Sheriffs Department on February 1, 1962, where he started out in Patrol.  Throughout Milton’s 30 years with the Sheriff’s Department, he worked in patrol, criminal warrants, and as Sergeant in Patrol until his retirement in 1991.  While serving in the warrant division, Milton had several partners who held a special place in his heart.  Milton truly enjoyed working with them and had many “war stories” to tell.  In 1976, he was awarded the 100 Club of Houston Award in recognition of his outstanding service.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God. -Matthews 5:9

Throughout his years with the department, he worked various shifts he still managed to always devote his time off to his family and his favorite time was spent with his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

After retirement, Milton and his loving wife, Patricia, resided in Bellville, then moved to Colorado, where they could enjoy the scenery of the beautiful mountains and being in nature surrounded by its beauty.  Later, they moved back to Bellville, to be closer to their loved ones.

He was blessed to be able to work for 30 years doing what he always wanted to do and enjoy 30 years of retirement, along with 60 years of marriage.  Not many people get to enjoy a life like that.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the following: Amedisys Hospice, Dr. Klaus, Holistic Care Management, and Austin County EMS for their numerous times of service.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
