On June 1, 1937, a third child was born to Jesse and Lucy Vinson. They named her Minnie Ree. She attended the family church of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Simonton, Texas. Minnie loved caring for people as well as sewing which prepared her for the future. When she was a little girl, she and her sister would walk hand in hand down the road. She met and married the love of her life, Raymond Johnson. To this union four (4) children were born: Vanessa, Christine, Raymond Jr. and Robert. She loved sewing to the point that she made her daughter, Christine’s, wedding dress. Minnie Ree was such a workaholic that she worked up until two months before her death. She was fondly known to her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all of the many children that she cared for as “Nana.” She was so active that until recently she was still mowing her yard and cutting limbs from the trees and she had a green thumb that wouldn’t quit. She could take a twig and plant it and it would grow. Minnie had a beehive on her house and because the companies were asking too much money to remove it, she removed it herself and put the honey and some of the comb in a jar. She said that was the best honey she’d ever had. Her love for singing earned her solo spot at many churches. Minnie was a long standing member of the Eastern Star. Preceding her in death are her parents, Jesse and Lucy Vinson, her husband, Raymond Sr., sister, Jessie Mae Newsome, brother, Melvin Vinson, nieces Rise L. Newsome, Helen Pittman, Marie and Cynthia Vinson, and her nephew, Carl E. Newsome. She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Vanessa, Christine, Raymond Jr (Laura), Robert Allen, nine (9) grandchildren. Twelve (12) great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, God-daughter, Ruth Jackson, other relatives, and friends.
