Minter “Wayne” Merten, 72, of Hempstead, TX passed away peacefully while surrounded by family in his home on Thursday, November 21, 2019.
Wayne was born on October 17, 1947 in Hempstead, TX to Jesse James Merten and Lou Addie Keilberg. He was a proud graduate of Hempstead High School, who had many hobbies and passions throughout his life including carpentry, coonhunting, fishing, chickens, and horses, but above all he was most passionate for his family. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Louise, where the two of them shared 51 beautiful years of marriage. During those years, Wayne was an amazing dad to his children, a loving “Papa” to his grandchildren, and a hardworking and loving husband to his wife.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Jesse James Merten and Lou Addie Merten; and his nieces: Dana Styers Thompson and Marla Sue Styers.
Wayne leaves behind his memories to his wife, Nettie “Louise” Merten of Hempstead, TX; daughter, Lanna Merten of Hempstead, TX; son, Jess Merten and wife Jeannie of Hempstead, TX; grandchildren: Hanna and husband Kolton, Trevor, Jesse, Kayleigh, Eric, and Jase; great-grandchildren: Kenleigh and Levi; sisters: Zolene Styers and husband Lamar, and Sue Barkley and husband Tommy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
