Norman Arthur Kitzman

November 27, 1935 — July 27, 2019

NORMAN ARTHUR KITZMAN was born on November 27, 1935 in Pattison, Texas to Henry Louis Kitzman and Martha Helen Emma Ehlert Kitzman, the 7th child of 8 surviving children. After graduation from Pattison High School in 1954, he went to Houston to be a plumber’s helper for the summer before going to Blinn Jr. College on an honor scholarship. He changed his mind and joined the apprenticeship program to become a plumber. In 1957 he met the love of his life and married Carolyn Norton in Texas City at the First Baptist Church on February 8, 1958. He worked as a plumber until he became a partner with Halbison Plumbing in 1965. Shortly thereafter he moved his family and built his forever home in Pattison, Texas where Carolyn and he could raise their 2 sons, Charley and Robert, in a rural and caring community. He later left Halbison Plumbing and went to work for Royal ISD where he stayed until retiring as Director of Maintenance and Operation. Norman was very active volunteering and spent much of his free time giving back to his community. He helped start the Pattison Brookshire Area Volunteer Emergency Ambulance Corporation, served for over 30 years on the Pattison Water Corporation Board of Directors, was on the Royal FFA Parade Committee, served as a liaison and alternate for San Bernard Electric Cooperation, helped with the Pattison Volunteer Fire Department, and assisted with the Pattison Methodist Cemetery. He was also an active member of the Brookshire Methodist Church and then at First Baptist Church of Brookshire.

Norman loved being outside working, making workable items out of discarded things, and building and repairing things. In retirement he enjoyed fishing, hunting in West Texas, renovating a lake house, boating, helping his Mother-in-law, helping take care of Koomey Ranch, cruising and traveling. He also enjoyed watching his family grow and spending time with all of them.

He is survived by his wife of 61 ½ years, Carolyn, children: Charley and Mariann Kitzman of Bellville, Texas, Robert and Kamala Kitzman of Round Top, Texas; grandchildren: Katie and Todd Tullis, Cason, Cody and Sonia, Colton and Tedi, Carter, Christopher and Karalena Kitzman. His great-grandchildren are Kaia and Kynli Tullis, Conrad Kitzman and Emerson Kitzman. He is also survived by his sister: Lydia House, of Brenham; brothers: Bill and Mary Grace Kitzman of Pattison, and Oliver Kitzman of Brookshire; sister-in-law: Beverly Kitzman of Bronte; sister- in-law: Ruby Norton Vest of Tomball; and brother-in-law: Richard and Patricia Norton of Houston; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Martha Kitzman; his mother and father-in-law: Stubby and Lovie Norton; sisters: LaVerne Dow Landig, Gleister Biddy; and brothers: Ellis and Henry; along with infant sons: Joel Emerson and Jon Michael Kitzman.
