Patricia Vlasta Poncik Diezi,
93, of Pattison, Texas, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on February 23, 2022, in Katy, Texas.
Pat was born on August 20, 1928, in West Point, Texas, the daughter of John August and Albina Michalik Poncik. Pat was seven years old when her mother passed away and she went to live with her Uncle Joe and Aunt Lucy Michalik in La Grange, Texas and eventually moved to Houston, Texas, where she grew up and attended school.
She was united in marriage with Jacob “Jack Diezi, Jr.” on November 23, 1947, in Houston, Texas, where they made their home. This union was blessed with three sons: Jacob “Jack” Diezi, III, Michael “Mike” Diezi, Sr., and Thomas “Tommy” Diezi.
When they lived in Houston, she was actively involved in the Boy Scouts, church work and enjoyed bowling.
In 1964, the Diezi’s moved to a 48-acre spread just north of Pattison, Texas, where they raised their children. This presented new opportunities for Pat to be in a rural community. She was a 4-H leader, volunteered with her church and was involved in the local FFA Chapter where she worked on the barbeque committee that fed many people year after year. She enjoyed working in her church and she still enjoyed bowling, but her family was first and foremost in her life (mostly her grandsons) who were always defended.
The Diezi’s had a turkey leg booth at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for many years. Her grandsons, fondly known as the “boys”, would be put to work in the turkey leg stand. There was one person working in the booth who was kind of gruff when dealing with children. He complained to Pat, “those kids were in the way”. She immediately told him in no uncertain terms that “those kids” were “HER” boys and if he couldn’t work with them, he would have to leave because they were staying with her.
Her community involvement and her sweet spirit allowed her to touch many lives. When she was spending her last hours in the nursing home, there was a phenomenal outpouring of love from the nurses, nurse’s aides, housekeepers, maintenance workers and residents. This frail woman was touching lives even in her last moments.
In that tiny body beat a golden heart. Her faith kept her fighting.
She is survived by her sons: Jacob Diezi, III and wife Candy, Michael Diezi, Sr. and wife Peggy of Pattison, and Thomas Diezi and Domingo Stewart of Houston; grandchildren: Brian Diezi and wife Tammy of Pattison, Michael Diezi, Jr. and wife Courtney of Katy, Jacob Diezi, IV and wife Wendy of Bellville, Daniel Diezi and wife Pamela of Wallis, and Robert “Bucky” Sheppard of Pattison; great-grandchildren: Arick Diezi and wife Meagan of Katy, Brianna Diezi of Pattison, and Shaun Warfield and wife Kaylie of Katy, Catherine and Brett Diezi of Katy, Brooke, Brody and Briley Diezi of Bellville, William, Samantha and Maddison Diezi of Wallis, and Cheyenne Fravel and husband Jason of Magnolia; great-great grandchild: Robert Fravel of Magnolia; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her spouse of 51 years: Jacob Diezi, Jr.; parents: John and Albina Poncik; aunt and uncle who raised her: Joe and Lucy Michalik; and brother: Clinton Edwin Poncik.
