Phyllis Gayle Martinez

Phyllis Gayle (Kirven) Martinez, 61, of Brookshire, passed away in Katy, Texas on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.

She was born on January 29, 1962, to Charles and Viola (Rucker) Kirven in Columbia, South Carolina. She grew up in Charleston, South Carolina before moving to Katy, Texas, where she graduated from Katy High School.  Phyllis furthered her education, receiving her RN from Memorial Hermann’s Nursing Program. On April 17, 1981, Phyllis was united in marriage to the love of her life, Raul Martinez, at Kingsland Baptist Church in Katy, Texas. Their union was blessed with a son, Ryan, and two daughters, Tara and Vena. Phyllis dedicated her life to her husband and children, bringing bright life into their hearts with her profound love. Phyllis and her family have resided in Katy, Wyoming, and Houston before making their home in Brookshire for the last five years. She enjoyed capturing memories through photo albums, planning family events, and spending time with loved ones. She showed the love of God to all who knew her.

Phyllis is survived by her husband: Raul Martinez; daughters: Tara Rodriguez and husband, Roy, of North Houston and Dr. Vena K. Martinez of Connecticut; son: Ryan Martinez and wife, Cecilly, of Caldwell; grandchildren: Adrien Rodriguez, Cora Martinez, Ryson Martinez, and Rucker Martinez; mother: Viola Kirven of Katy; sister: Cynthia Harmond of Houston; sister-in-law: Laurie Kirven of Austin; and numerous family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father: Charles Cecil Kirven; brother: Wayne Kirven, and brother-in-law: Gary Harmond.
