Robert Patrick Brady

September 30, 1943 — December 27, 2024

Robert Patrick Brady, 81, a long term resident of Houston, Texas, known to family and friends as Pat, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024. Born on September 30, 1943, Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. and Louise F. Brady Fassett Hall. He was a well loved son, brother and uncle to his many nephews and nieces. He was born in Blue Island, Illinois, the second of 5 brothers and sisters. They later moved to Solon, Ohio where he grew up. He had grandparents, many uncles, aunts and cousins in Illinois and Iowa that he spent time with during family vacations and summers. The times he spent on his uncle's farms with his brother, Terry and cousins, Joe, Steve, and Bill and at large family reunions with his parents, brother, and sisters Michaele, Bobbette, and Kelly were cherished memories. Pat's education was in the Solon School District and he was a proud graduate of Solon High School. While there he developed his love of music by playing the trombone in the school marching band. He excelled in Spanish and music. He was also the District Boss for Key Club, the Kiwanis affiliate. It was during his high school years that the Brady family welcomed AFS students from Denmark, Hasse Lenler-Eriksen and later his sister, Jane. They became lifelong family friends. Pat attended Kent State University for 2 years during which time he was drafted in the Army. He did his Basic Training and Infantry Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, Georgia. Because of his Spanish skills and ability to pick up new languages, he was admitted to the Defense Language School in Monterey, California. He was deployed to Vietnam shortly after. While there, he had a Military Advisor role and his language abilities helped him to train the Montagnard People in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. After returning to the states, Pat attained the rank of Captain and was honorably discharged in 1969. His love of music helped get him into the music industry. After his discharge, Pat was employed by Columbia Records as a Promotions Manager in Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked with various artists such as Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash, Andy Williams, Johnny Mathis and many others. Several years later, he moved to Houston, Texas and became a music producer and production engineer at Sugar Hill Studios working exclusively with Freddy Fender. He loved being an amateur DJ, like his dad, and enjoyed doing many gigs. Pat had very keen interests in electronics, technology, politics and space. He was well read and loved watching many shows on PBS and the Discovery Channel. He had a quick sense of humor and was a very funny person to be around. Though never married, he was very fortunate to have helped raise Kody Bornstein, who became like a son to him. One of Pat's proudest moments was when Pat attended Kody's high school graduation. They asked the graduates to give the person who had the best influence on them a rose. Kody gave his rose to Pat. Pat is survived by his brother, Terrence J. Brady (Innes Brady) and his sisters, Michaele S. Daramus (Tom Daramus), Bobbette L. Brady and Kelly Brady Halladay as well as many nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother-in-law, Peter Bleckwehl, spouse of Kelly. He will be cremated and arrangements for a military burial are being made by Terry Brady. Details will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity that provides support and assistance to veterans struggling with PTSD.
