Robert Gene Froebel, of Houston, Texas passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at the age of 88.
Robert was born on September 16, 1932, in Cat Spring, Texas. He was the son of Arthur, Sr. and Clara Marie (Leenen) Froebel. Robert was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Cat Spring, Texas. He grew up and attended schools in the Cat Spring area, graduating from Sealy High School in 1951, where he played football. After high school, Robert enlisted and served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1953-1955. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Ruth Reeder on August 26, 1956, at St. John Lutheran Church in New Ulm, Texas and they were together for 64 wonderful years. Robert had a very strong work ethic and worked in the shipping department for Cameron Iron Works for 44 years until his retirement.
In his spare time and retirement, he loved working on his farm and tinkering with his farm equipment. He enjoyed taking care of his cattle, making hay, and being on his tractor. He also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was happiest when he was outside, working with his hands, or spending quality time with family. He also loved going to dances with his beautiful wife and was asked to lead many Grand Marches at wedding receptions during his lifetime. Robert and Ruth enjoyed traveling through the lower 48 states, Canada, Hawaii, and to Europe and Germany where their ancestors originated. Robert was fluent in German and loved sharing travel adventures with the family.
Once Robert became a grandfather he was affectionately known as Grandpa or G-Dad Bob.
Robert is survived by his wife Ruth Froebel of Houston; children: Kem Coan and her husband, John of Houston, and Reed Froebel and his wife, Dana, of Cypress, Texas; grandchildren: Robby Coan, Megan Patterson, Austin Froebel, and Ashley Froebel; sister: Betty Priesmeyer; brothers: Cecil Froebel, Arthur Froebel, Jr., and Carlos Froebel; sister-in-law: Alice Brune; and numerous other family and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur, Sr. and Clara Froebel, and brother: Clyde Froebel.
Pallbearers are Robby Coan, Austin Froebel, Keith Froebel, Todd Froebel, Brian Froebel, and Eric Tipp.
Honorary Pallbearers are Megan Patterson and Ashley Froebel.
