Scott Courtright Saville died Tuesday, July 13th, in Fulshear, Texas.  He leaves behind a family made uniquely-exceptional in large part by all that he did and all that he was – as well as a heart-broken fan club of hundreds of friends and colleagues all around the world.  He was 63 years old.

Born July 5, 1958, in Columbus, Ohio, to Ed & Charlotte -- Scott made his way to Texas in 1976.   Scott studied business as a Horned Frog at TCU in Fort Worth, where he graduated in 1981.  A college camping trip, where he said he tasted the best biscuits ever, led him to meet his future bride.  It was indeed the luck o’ the Irish when he found it was Mary who made the biscuits.  This year, the couple celebrated 40 years of marriage.

Together, they raised three children:  Mary Margaret, Forrest & JB.   And then some  Foster children, neighbors, co-workers, church members, foreign exchange students. Their door was always open.  Scott was the leader of the pack for initiating a hearty welcome, a friendly hug, a pick-up game of basketball, some driving range practice, joke-swapping, grilling some of their farm bounty or bartending.

For the past twenty years, Scott worked at AMETEK here in Houston, most recently serving as Division Vice-President of Sales, E&PI.  His early career days began in Yukon, Oklahoma, in the management training division of Western Co, North America.  In the early 80s, he was a service supervisor in Meadville, Pennsylvania, when a tragic on-site accident occurred that would have stopped many.  Not Scott.  It was more than a stumbling block to be sure; but together with his family, he persevered and overcame the hand he’d been dealt.  From Meadville, it was back to Fort Worth as a senior market analyst.  Then to Houston where he served in Russian sales and operations for the next decade.  Then, in 1997, Chandler Engineering became his employer where he served as international sales manager and later as vice president of sales.

Scott never met a stranger and his storied career took him around the world many times.  Many he met eventually found their way to his 5S Family Farm in Fulshear, where they were more likely than not included in whatever the order of the day was – be it a crawfish boil, a 5K, a chicken-plucking marathon, a bicycle race or a calf castration.  Scott lived large both at work and play.  Scott could be wildly outrageous.  He easily could have been a performer with his Technicolor ways.  But many were privileged to see his soft side.  Scott was unpretentious and incredibly kind. He was equally at home in a luxury penthouse hotel suite as he was in a dusty feedlot cow pen.  Scott brokered big business deals and chaperoned rowdy church teen campouts – both with aplomb and finesse.  And all the while, employing the best kind of fun imaginable!

Scott is survived by his wife Mary; daughter Mary Margaret Saville (Adrian); sons Forrest (Lyndie), JB (Natalie), Lee (Sarah), Christoffer (Mia) & Inuk (Neva); grandchildren Nahuel, Ren, Ian, Oliver, Owen, Otto, Charlie, June, Silas, Asger, Carla & Minik; mother-in-law Millie Knapp; and brother-in-law Al Miller -- as well as a legion of friends who loved him.

Services are slated for Friday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist of Fulshear at Harris & Second Streets in Fulshear, Texas.

A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
