Selwin Wade Jones

Selwin Wade Jones, age 83, of Simonton, Texas passed away February 1, 2024.

Selwin was born November 25, 1940, in Houston, Texas to Arbrey and Lorene (Saul) Jones.  Selwin was raised in Bellaire, Texas and graduated from Bellaire High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Selwin had a lifelong devotion to the Marine Corps and embodied “Semper Fi”.  Upon returning home to Houston after his time in the Marines, he married the love of his life, Doris Joan Wiper, on March 12, 1966. They moved to Fulshear, Texas in 1969, where they raised their two sons. His boys were a constant source of love and pride. Selwin built a career in the tile industry as a contractor. He, with his beloved Doris by his side, built a full life and raised a family that he loved.  Selwin loved his cows, gardening and every moment he spent with his family. He also loved cake…and cookies…and pie. Selwin loved his sweets. He loved being on his tractor, mending fences, putting hay out for his cows and being the best husband he could be to Doris. Whether known as “Selwin”, “Dad” or “Pops”, he will always be remembered for his strength, kindness, loving devotion to his family and his always entertaining “Selwinisms” – which were always delivered with a grin and a twinkle in his eye.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arbrey and Lorene Jones.  He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Doris Jones; his son, Wade Jones and wife, Angela; his son, Aron Jones and wife, Melody; his grandchildren, Wyatt Jones, Reese Cantu and husband AJ, Nora Jones, Tabitha Jones, Mason Boone and wife, Samantha, Sophia Boone and Grace Boone; and his sister Patricia Curtis.

Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30am on Friday, February 9, 2024, with the funeral service following at 10am, in the chapel of Simonton Community Church, 9703 FM 1489 in Simonton, with Kenny Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Fulshear Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Wyatt Jones, AJ Cantu, Greg Allen, Dalton Allen, Travis Wiper and Dwayne Stiles.  Serving as honorary pallbearers are Nora Jones and Tabitha Jones.
