STEPHEN CLAY COX, 67, of Cat Spring, Texas, cruised into the sunset early Sunday morning, June 12, 2016, in Katy, Texas. Stephen was born in Amherst, Texas to James and Mildred (Middleton) Cox on December 1, 1948. Education was important to Stephen and he enjoyed being a part of shaping the young minds of our future. He served as an elementary school principal and was employed in that capacity for over 17 years at Selman Elementary school in Sealy, Texas. Upon retiring, he continued his passion for education by substitute teaching Special Education classes. Other passions and hobbies included gardening, singing in the choir, especially with the Austin County Chorale, and cooking. Stephen was also a master painter and loved working on his farm house. Perhaps, one of the things he enjoyed the most was taking cruise ship vacations all over the world. Stephen is survived by his loving husband: John Cowan of Cat Spring, Texas; son: Brent Cox and his wife, Sonja, of Rockwall, Texas; two beautiful granddaughters: Kenedy and Breece Cox, also of Rockwall, Texas; brothers: Butch Cox, Reagan Cox, and Toby Cox. He is preceded in death by his parents: James and Mildred Cox. A Celebration of Stephen''s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2016, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, in Bellville, Texas.
