Veola "Punkin" Johnson

Mrs. Veola “Punkin” Johnson, 79, of Brookshire, Texas was called to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Veola was born on February 1, 1941, in Jefferson, Texas to the parentage of Frankie Bray and David McIntosh. She attended Jefferson and Dallas public schools. In 1969, Veola and her three children, Val, Jr., and Kevin, journeyed to Brookshire. Veola and her family became an integral part of the Brookshire community, with her kids attending Royal ISD. She could always be seen around town with her flaming red hair, many coordinated hats, and diva personality.

Veola worked in administration at Prairie View A&M University and Memorial City General Hospital before completing her career at the City of Brookshire, where she dedicated her time and was a productive and loved employee for many years. She was always known to greet everyone she met with the phrase, “May I help you?” Veola also made sure that everyone got something out of her infamous candy bowl.

Veola is survived by her son: Clarence R. Johnson, Jr. (Cassandra) of Rockwall; grandchildren: Courtney Johnson (Rebekah) of Fate, Crystal Johnson of Dallas, David Thomas (Tonya) of Sealy; great-grandchildren: Darian, Davian, and LaTaeya Thomas; friend: Gerald Hurd; and a host of other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Kevin Johnson (son), Valerie Johnson (daughter), and Clarence R. Johnson, Sr.

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the Sunset Hospice Group and her caregivers, Queen and Sandra, who went above and beyond.
