Wayne William Schomburg

December 16, 1940 — July 31, 2017

Wayne William Schomburg, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and friend passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellville, Texas. He was 76 years old.  A native of Bellville, Wayne moved nearby to Sealy in 1964 and made it his home until his passing.  He and his wife of 53 years, Marcella, raised their three children there and were actively involved in the community.   He will be very greatly missed and forever loved. Wayne worked at Citizens State Bank in Sealy for 48 years where he served as Executive Vice President and a Director for decades. Citizens State Bank was more than a job.  His work there was a source of pride and accomplishment second only to his family.  After retiring in 2013, Wayne remained an active member of the bank’s Board of Directors, Loan and Discount Committee and Investment Committee.  Throughout his life, Wayne gave generously to organizations in Austin County where he helped to build a healthy, strong community – not for any accolades, but because he believed that it was the right thing to do. Wayne was a Boy Scout leader, Little League coach for 12 years, Sealy Jaycee member, and an 18-year member of the Sealy ISD Board of Directors.  He was also a member of the Sealy Rotary club, the treasurer for the Sealy Fire Department, a long-time member of the Sealy Chamber of Commerce, a trustee for the Selman estate, and an active member of St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church choir.  He had a servant’s heart.  Wayne was born on December 16, 1940 in Bellville and raised there. He was the only child of Erna Bell (Zander) and William H. Schomburg who instilled in Wayne from an early age the value of hard work and decency and the importance of faith.  He attended Bellville ISD engaging in activities from volunteering as an elementary school crossing guard to playing varsity football.  Wayne met his wife, Marcella, in high school and the two became sweethearts. They both attended Sam Houston State University from which Wayne earned his BBA in 1962.   He served in the Air Force Reserve and later earned a graduate degree from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. Wayne married Marcella on December 21, 1963 and was a devoted and loyal husband. He became a father in 1970.  Wayne was a loving and caring dad who delighted in his children.  His children and grandchildren were his greatest legacy, and he took immense pride in them.  Wayne spent countless hours throwing a baseball, attending various sporting events, offering words of encouragement and selflessly doing all of the things dads (and papas) do for their kids. Wayne enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, reading the paper with his dog, and sharing time and stories with friends and family. He loved a good joke and good company. Wayne is survived by his beloved Marcella and their children: Aaron of Bellville, Neil and his wife, Amy of Pearland, and Leigh Ann and her husband, Robert Ryan of Greenwich, Connecticut. Cherished grandfather of Grant, Hannah, Nicholas, Jacob, Lucy, Robert, Maggie and John William. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to either: Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church P.O. Box 808 Bellville, Texas 77418, Bellville Hospital Foundation P.O. Box 977 Bellville, Texas 77418,or to the charity of their choice.
