WILLIAM MURRAY “Mick” CURL, III, 85, of Bellville, Texas, passed away Monday, September 30th, 2024, in Bellville.
Mick was born February 24th, 1939, in Amarillo, Texas, the son of William Murray, Jr. and Neta Hawkins Curl. He grew up and attended schools in Amarillo, Texas, Sacramento, California, and Spring Branch, Texas, graduating from Spring Branch High School in 1957.
He lived in Houston and Bellaire, before calling Bellville, Texas, home. Mick was united in marriage to Sheila Green, on April 20th, 1963, in Pasadena, Texas.
Mick served his country in the United States Air Force Reserve, as a Medical Administrative Specialist from 1959 to 1965. Later, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve from 1975 to 1977, achieving the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. He was a dedicated Houston firefighter for over 25 years, retiring in January 1991. He also served as a peace officer for the City of Bellaire, Texas and later became the Fire Marshall for Bellville, Texas. He volunteered countless hours, helping the Bellville Volunteer Fire Department. In 2004, Mick finally retired a second time from the City of Sealy as a Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer.
He was a member of The Shepherd's Way Church in Sealy, Texas, where he served on The Usher Team. As a dedicated Christian, he loved to help anyone in need. Mick participated in numerous activities and organizations throughout his life, serving as Scout Master, among other things. He was a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club and had a great passion for classic cars and all things Studebaker.
Mick is survived by his wife of over 61 years: Sheila Curl of Bellville; his children: Olen Curl and his wife, April, of Haslet, Elodie Christian and her husband, Curt, of Crockett; grandchildren: Amber Adams and significant other, JJ Carnley, Alyssa Curl, Gavin Curl, Connor Christian, and Skylar Christian; great-granddaughter: Holly Carnley; sister: Chris Schott and her husband, Joe, of Burnet; brother Mike Curl and his wife, Kathleen, of Houston; sister-in-law Bobbie McWhorter of Waco, close friend, Scott Grant, of Brenham, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, family, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William, Jr., and Neta Curl.
