Gary Lynn Krueger

August 8, 1952 — September 13, 2020

Gary Lynn Krueger, husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and best of friend, went to be with the Lord our Savior on Sunday, September 13, 2020, at the age of 68. He fought a long and tough battle with cancer, all the while staying positive and strong in his faith.

Gary was born on August 8, 1952, in Bellville to parents Clarence and Edith Krueger.  He was baptized in the Methodist Church in Bellville and confirmed November 3, 1969, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sealy. Their home was in Burleigh, Texas.

He attended Piney School and then Bellville High School where he graduated in May 1970. While in high school, he received his Lone Star Farmer degree.  He then attended Blinn College in Brenham.   Gary married his high school sweetheart Nancy Remmert on May 27, 1972, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Sealy.   They were blessed with two wonderful sons, Todd and Christopher.

Gary was employed in earlier years by Boriack Motors in Bellville in the parts department.  After marriage, he worked at Jack Roach Ford and Russell and Smith Ford in Houston, also in the parts department.  Then Gary and Nancy decided to move back to Bellville, and he became the Parts Manager at Boriack Motors.   In 1978, Gary opened his own company, Circle K Sales, and then expanded in 1980 and became Saxon Steel and Supply, Inc., selling and fabricating steel. His sons worked side by side with him on various projects, soaking up the knowledge which helped them later in life.  By the 1990s, Gary had incorporated selling and erecting metal buildings into his business.  He took great pride in every building he erected, making sure the customer was completely satisfied. He was the same way with everything he built; it had to be measured and be accurate. That is a characteristic he definitely passed on to his sons.

Quail hunting was Gary’s favorite hobby.  He especially enjoyed hunting quail with his sons Todd and Chris, best friends Russel, John, and Jack, and brother Larry. Later on, grandson Dustin and other family members joined them on the adventures of hunting. Gary and his hunting dogs were inseparable during quail season.  Gary was well known for his grilled quail dishes he would prepare.  He also enjoyed fishing, family gatherings where he was always barbequing or grilling in the back yard and spending time with his sons and grandchildren. You may have driven by his pasture and seen him spending time with the cattle, playing with the young calves.  Or maybe you would drive by and see him on his John Deere lawnmower mowing the ditches in front of his shop and house.

Gary’s heart was full of patience, love, and forgiveness and he would go out of his way to help anyone.  He always had a smile on his face and was friendly to everyone. His random acts of kindness were abundant and his love for his family was immeasurable.

Gary is survived by his wife of 48  years Nancy, son Christopher and his wife Anna and their children Dustin Burkhalter and wife Jen, and Stephanie Golightly and boyfriend Payne, granddaughter Kerby Krueger,  sister-in-law Sue Krueger, sister Shirley Maeckel, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Betty and Perry Thomas, Judy and Ronnie Robertson, and Christine and Jerry Pieper, nieces Kim Bugai and husband Tony, Traci Warner and husband Paul, David Babin, husband of late Valerie Babin, Melanie Wesolick, Mae Hintzel and husband Mike, Vicki Swonke and husband Gene, Mandy Curry, and Shawna Burroughs and husband Ben, nephews Buddy Slovak and wife Christine,  Steven Robertson and wife Shannon, and Craig Robertson, and numerous cousins and good friends.

Gary was preceded in death by parents Clarence and Edith Krueger, brother Larry Krueger, bothers-in-law Marvin Maeckel, Sonny Slovak, and Earl Ray Remmert, sister-in-law Kathleen Slovak, son Todd, nephew Danny Slovak, and niece Valerie Babin.
